
Wells Anderson, son of Robert Anderson and Anna Hungerford, was born on January 23, 1788 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut.[1] Wells married Dorothy (Dolly) Beckwith, daughter of Deacon George Beckwith, on February 7, 1810. Wells was a tanner by trade. By 1820, he had opened a boot and shoe store at the east end of Main Street in Palmyra. In that same year, he was appointed the town assessor.
