Orin Reed was born on December 1, 1803 in Farmington, Ontario County, New York. He married Amanda Osgood in 1830. To their union were born two children: Ellen H. Reed and Ann Walker.
Orin spent nearly his whole life on a 120-acre farm situated on Stafford Road in Manchester, New York. He was acquainted with the Smiths, but claimed they were “too low to associate with.” He claimed to know nothing about the Smiths, only hearsay. He resided three-fourths a mile from the Hill Cumorah.[1]
He died on September 28, 1888 in Manchester. He was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Shortsville, Ontario County, New York.
