Another way to be a “man in high standing” was to be associated with a bank in the greater Palmyra area. The following men needed to have personal funds to back their banks since banks were privately owned and funded at that time. The Wayne County Bank of Palmyra was organized in 1830, with president, Angus Strong. He was succeeded by Thomas Rogers, George Beckwith, and Abram Spear. This bank failed in 1840.
