The Baptist church in Palmyra was organized in 1800 by a group of nineteen worshipers who met in the Lemuel Spear home. The Baptists built their first meetinghouse in 1808 in Macedon. On February 14, 1835, the Palmyra Baptists split from the Macedon Church. In 1848 they built their church on “God’s corner” at 100 W. Main Street. The phone number is (315) 597-9212.
The First Baptist Church struggled for years with membership. In 2014, they closed the First Baptist Church and opened the Fellowship Bible Church which is still active in Palmyra (Loreen Jorgensen, The First Hundred Churches of Wayne County, New York, 2018).
