Neighbors of the Joseph Smith Sr. family in Palmyra

It is important to know who the neighbors were for this was a time when travel was difficult. Hitching up a buggy and taking the children on a journey was a big deal. The Smiths would talk most often to family and close neighbors. Near neighbors would be their children’s playmates. The Smith would borrow things from neighbors. It is known that some of the neighbors employed the Smith children to do menial tasks like Lemuel Durfee Sr. If someone in the Smith household became sick or had an accident, the first people to turn to outside of the family would be a near neighbor. Often near neighbors become close friends. The Smiths lived in two locations in Palmyra before the 116 pages were lost.
